Islam: The Message of Mercy

Introduction to Islam

Islam is the monotheist faith revealed by God Almighty (Allah) to all the Prophets of Islam, from Adam to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, blessings & peace be upon all of them:

He has ordained for you (humankind) the religion (Deen) which He had enjoined upon Noah – and that which We revealed unto you [O Muhammad] and that which We had enjoined upon Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus: Steadfastly uphold the Deen (Islam), and do not break up your unity therein.

[42:13]

The fundamental principle of Islam, which all Messengers of God were send to establish, is that: There is One God, only Allah, God Almighty.

We did never send any Messenger before you without having revealed to him that there is no deity save Me, therefore, you shall worship Me.”

[21:25]

The Message of Islam is mercy from God Almighty delivered from Him through His Messengers for all people. See The Messenger & The Message.

Islam is an Arabic word meaning “submission (to God)“; it is from the root word salaam that means peace. Islam is the code of conduct to live in peace with God, oneself, ones family, community, humanity, and nature. Thus the person will secure living in peace in this life and in the hereafter. This code of conduct is noble character, which is  The Aim Of The Message.

In the Holy Quran, Deen in the sense of faith, obedience to God Almighty, and way of conduct is described as Islam, the religion of all Prophets and Messengers

Verily, Deen, for Allah, is Islam“  [2:256]

This is the Oneness of the Message.

God Almighty requires His creation to worship Him according to His words:

And I have not created the jinn and the humans but to worship Me

[51:56]

Worship (Arabic= Ibaadah) means to know God Almighty and to love Him, i.e. to obey Him by following the example of His Messengers (peace be upon all of them), which is noble character and interaction with good conduct.

Say (O Muhammad to people): “If you do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

[3:31]

This is the essence of Worship in Islam.

The Methodology Of Preaching this great Message, therefore, should be in harmony with its aim and nature as well as with the nature of the human being.

Prophet Muhammad (PBHH) said: “Facilitate, do not complicate (life); bring joyful tidings, do not repel.”

Sahih Al-Bukhari

He also said: “Make people love God Almighty, and make them lovable to Him, then He will love you.

Hilyatu Al-Awliya.

The message to be preached to humanity should emphasise the fact that all religions which came from God Almighty are Islam, and are the Truth. This knowledge dispels the bias of all people towards their Book and their religion, which is the partisanship about which the Prophet (PBHH) said:

Leave it; indeed, it smells

Sahih Al-Bukhari.

This knowledge is indeed the foundation of faith tolerance with which good conduct is achieved between religions under the umbrella of the all-embracing Islam.

The way Prophet Muhammad (PBHH) conveyed the Message to humanity should be the way of preaching it. This includes respecting the God-given dignity to all human beings, showing them mercy and love, implementing the true concept of Jihad… and many more. See How To Preach The Message.

The aim of  Legislation in the Message of Prophet Muhammad is to refine people and elevate them from a life of ignorance to transcendent manners, at the apex of which Prophet Muhammad (PBHH), whom God Almighty has praised, is enthroned:

…to proclaim his transcendency over all religion

[48:28]
